Technical Support for ICT Systems - An Introduction to PCs

If you have little or no experience but want to master the basics of PC support, this course is ideal. It will give you a good grounding in understanding the components of a PC, how to maintain them and keep them in good condition. The course also gives you the basics of moving files within the DOS directory structure, running Windows and starting applications and customising the Windows environment to suit you and your needs. This course also provides additional PC support knowledge that is recommended if you are preparing for the CompTIA A+ exam.

Outline and learning objectives:
On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the components of a PC.
  • Take care of the PC, cleaning and preventative maintenance.
  • Copy and move files within the DOS directory structure.
  • Run Windows and start applications.
  • Customise the Windows environment for personal preferences.

  • Keyboards, mice, printers and peripherals.
  • Disk Operating System (DOS).
  • DOS file structure.
  • Useful DOS commands.
  • Windows operating system.
  • Managing programs.
  • Working with folders and files.
  • Other Windows features.

Previous experience required:

  • You don't need any formal qualifications to start this course but it's useful to be able to use basic functions of a PC.
